Test Execution Management with QA Studio

In addition to the rich authoring environment, QA Studio provides a range of functionality to manage the test execution process. Test Execution Management functionality is included directly within the Test Scripts generated by QA Studio.

Test Status Bar

Central to the Test Status management functionality is the Test Status Bar. This bar appears at the top of each Test Case page and provides both status information and access to test management commands.

Test Execution Process

The Test Execution Management functionality included in the Test Scripts you create with QA Studio provides guidance and control of the test execution process.

A typical test process would be as follows:

ShowInitial Test Status

When you first view a Test Case page and have not signed in, the Test Status Bar will look like this:

Once you have signed in, the Test Status Bar will show the Test Management commands for a test that is not yet in progress:

ShowStart Testing

When you are ready to begin testing, click Start this Test Case. The Test Status Bar will then be updated:

Once the Test Case has started, the Test Result box will be displayed, ready for you to record the Test Result:

ShowPause Testing

If you wish to stop testing for a period of time, click Pause this Test Case. You can then resume testing when you are ready by clicking Resume this Test Case.

Pausing when you are not actually testing ensures that the test execution time is recorded accurately.

ShowRecord the Test Result

Once you have completed the Test Case you can use the Test Result box to record the Test Result. The color of the Test Result box changes to highlight the result type you are about to submit:

Click on the Record Result button (or press Ctrl-F8) to record the test result but remain on this Test Case page or click the Record Result and Start Next Test to record the test result and then move to the next available test.

ShowFind the next available Test Case

If you are browsing through the Test Script and would like to find the next available Test Case, click on Find Next Available.

The Find Next Available link in the Test Status Bar will locate the next available Test Case; i.e. one that is not already in progress by another user, or part of a Test Group already in progress by another user.

When you record a Test Result using the Record Result and Start Next Test button, the Test Script will automatically locate and open the next available Test Case.

ShowView Test Status information for the whole Test Script

Click Test Cycle Report to view the Test Status Report for this particular Test Cycle of the Test Script.

The Test Status Report provides both a summary and detailed view of the current status of each Test Case in the current Test Cycle.
